About The Town Centre Partnership

The Partnership was established in 1997 to work with all stakeholders to make Great Yarmouth Town Centre a more vibrant and attractive place to work, shop and live. The Town Centre Partnership is a not-for-profit organisation funded by its members with all membership subscriptions being used to promote the town and protect businesses. In 2006, town centre businesses voted in favour of the formation of a Business Improvment District (BID), details of which can be found at www.gybid.co.uk

The objectives of the Great Yarmouth Town Centre Partnership are straightforward enough. The three key elements are:

  • Safety and Security
  • Promotions and Events
  • Business Development

Safety and Security

CCTV, ShopNet radio link, Street Wardens, shared intelligence, Secure Incident Reporting and Community Engagement System (SIRCS), exclusion orders and civil recovery have played a significant role in reducing crime and anti-social behaviour in the town centre as part of the Town Partnerships ShopSafe scheme. The success of this combination of measures has resulted in the Partnership being accredited by the Home Office funded ‘Safer Business Award' scheme that recognises the determination of the scheme to maintain a safe and secure environment for all those using the town and it's facilities.

Promotions and Events

Raising the profile of Great Yarmouth Town Centre as an exciting shopping destination is an important part of Partnership activities. Frequent high quality events and promotions in and around the town centre are a vital part of maintaining the attraction for visitors. Christmas and Summer are the high volume trading periods for the town centre and the Partnership maintains a significant level of events and marketing at these times, however, the importance of seeking to bring new events at other times of the year has not been overlooked.

Business Development

Business development and creating new investment within the Town Centre is crucial to the future of Great Yarmouth. New investment not only brings increased wealth to the area, but also more people, which directly benefit the businesses in the town. To influence and encourage investment into the Town Centre the Partnership works with all stakeholders to improve the general offer in terms of Quality, Quantity and Diversity.
