More modern policing for Yarmouth

A Police Investigation Centre (PIC) earmarked for Great Yarmouth will herald a new era for the force in the town.

The building will include a modern custody suite to replace outdated police cells both in Yarmouth and Lowestoft.

Once it is ready, on a site near B&Q in Thamesfield Way, attention will turn to replacing the existing main police station with a more modern building.

Chief Insp Roger Wiltshire said the police were required to provide better facilities for detainees and police staff, including exercise yards and more modern interview and forensic examination rooms. They will all be part of the new Yarmouth PIC.

The new suite is one of six being built around Norfolk and Suffolk.

Peter Belson, project director for the procurement of the PICs, said the it was part of a programme to deliver first class policing services.

The PICs would help meet the requirements and needs of modern policing in Norfolk and Suffolk, enjoy the benefits of collaborative working and be more cost-effective, something to please the public.
