Great Yarmouth Christmas Lights switch-on update
It will not come as a big surprise to anyone that whilst we are still in the midst of the Coronavirus pandemic, organising an event to attract a mass gathering in one location for 1 -2 hours is not permitted under current the Covid-19 guidelines. Whether the situation will improve before the end of November is anyone’s guess but given that at this moment cases of infection have started to increase it is probably unlikely. Therefore, the Town Centre Partnership have come to the decision to cancel the town centre Christmas Lights switch-on event that would have been held on the evening of 27th November. The town centre Christmas lights will still be switched on and there could be more as as we are in talks with Great Yarmouth Borough Council regarding a scheme to bring in additional decorative lighting. In addition to more festive lighting, we are looking to add more experiential activities, projections, markets and fireworks to the town over the festive period as we look to attract more footfall throughout the town between October and January. The Town Centre Partnership has pledged match funding of a significant funding application towards the above in addition to a government grant already secured. At this current time we are still planning to hold the annual Great Yarmouth Christmas Fayre over the last weekend of November, any change to this will be advised as soon as known.
